The Mount Barker Cooperative Mount Barker Grapes & Gallops event, a joint venture of the Mount Barker Turf Club and the Mount Barker Wine Producers Association was certainly the best ever. A huge crowd on course enjoyed the fine somewhat sultry weather.
Twelve local wine producers had their premium wines sampled, as well as being presented on the tables of the beautiful three course luncheon which was patronised by 170 sponsors and guests.
Various food vendors also had a wide variety of wares to sell, ranging from fresh cherries and strawberries, local cheeses, stuffed spuds and pizzas.The biggest event on the Mount Barker Turf Club’s six race meeting season is Mount Barker Grapes & Gallops festival of premium wine, gourmet foods and horse racing. This race meeting is a ten race program which includes the Great Southern’s biggest sprint race, the $90,000 Mungrup Stud Sprint over 1300m.
Patrons at the Mount Barker Grapes & Gallops event will be able to sample wines from twelve wine producers from the Mount Barker Wine Producers Association. These include Arcadia, Galafrey, Gilberts, Xabregas, Three Drops, Hawkers Ridge, and Clouds Estate. All manner of gourmet foods will be on sale, from local cherries, strawberries, cheeses and various prepared foods. Children’s entertainment will be on course, as well as fashions on the field.
